Easy Recipe: Chocolate Morsels and Almond Frappuccino

I have a big secret…I don’t drink coffee.  As a mother, especially of Hispanic origins, its highly unusual not to drink coffee.  Many mothers like to get together for playdates or to meet with mothers over coffee and Latinos adore their cafe con leche (coffee with milk).  My parents and siblings drink coffee as part of their daily routine, but I have never really been a fan.  I have drank coffee in the past, like when I had to study for an all nighter, but I am not a habitual coffee drinker. In reality, I’m a naturally “high” person so no one would really want to see me on caffeinated high, anyway.

As a non-coffee drinker, I was pleasantly surprised with Chocolate Morsels and Almond Frappuccino.  This recipe use chocolate milk, which is the most popular choice in schools and kids drink less milk (and get fewer nutrients) if it’s taken away.  Incorporating healthy habits is a goal of mine for my entire family.  Children who drink flavored milk meet more of their nutrient needs; do not consume more added sugar or fat; and are not heavier than non-milk drinkers.

Chocolate Morsels and Almond Frappuccino
Makes 2 (1 cup) servings
Nutrition Information: 228 calories; 6.5 g fat; 4 g saturated fat;
9 g protein; 290 mg calcium
Ingredients

2 cup low fat chocolate milk
2 tbsp chocolate morsels
¼ teaspoon of almond extract
Ice

Directions
Mix all ingredients in a blender until the ice is crushed
