Pledge and Win with General Mills “I HEART BREAKFAST” Campaign featuring Spokesperson Actress Keke Palmer

in brands, families, food, giveaways, latinos, multiples, parenting, technology on 10/25/10

Did you eat breakfast today?
Did your children eat breakfast this morning?

Ask someone if they ate breakfast and the answer is commonly “No”. Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, however, it frequently gets overlooked or skipped in the daily lives of individuals and families.

Teenagers commonly skip breakfast and are prey to the many misconceptions about eating breakfast. Often teens think that they are too busy to eat breakfast, teenage girls will think not eating breakfast will help them to lose weight, and/or maintain their figure. Breakfast is essential for improving concentration, productivity, healthier body weight, and lower cholesterol.

To help encourage teenagers (and all) to eat breakfast,
General Mills has launched I <3BKFST
(I HEART BREAKFAST) campaign.

A 10 year study on African American & Caucasian teenage girls created by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute Growth and Health Study (NGHS) and in partnership with the General Mills Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition shows that breakfast cereal eaters tended to have lower waist-to-height ratios, which is an indicator of healthy body weight, lower total cholesterol and lower LDL cholesterol.

One of the healthiest breakfast choices in the 10-year study was fortified ready-to-eat cereal, which helped boost the nutrient content in the girls’ diets. The study results identified that tween and teen girls who regularly ate cereal for breakfast – relative to 24 other reported breakfast foods – were less likely to be overweight, had healthier body weights, and lower cholesterol.

“As we look at the results of the study, it’s important to communicate three primary points with girls and their parents or guardians,” explained Susan Crockett, PhD., RD, F.A.D.A., Vice President and Senior Technology Officer, Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition. “First, breakfast is a must for better health. Second, choose foods that will nourish your body and help jumpstart your day. Third, fortified cereal is a convenient, wholesome choice.”

To emphasize the importance of eating breakfast to teenagers, popular teen actress and artist, Keke Palmer, is the spokesperson for I <3 BKFST campaign.

Keke is encouraging pre-teens, teens, and families to take the I <3 BKFST pledge.

To take the pledge, follow these three simple steps:
Visit the I <3 BKFST Facebook Page www.facebook.com/IHEARTBKFST

🎓 Born on Thanksgiving Day, we have been thankful for your lives every single day. Our dynamic duo, Jonathan & Jeremy, are Presidential inductees of the National Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
🎓 From the very beginning of their educational journey, they have consistently achieved academic excellence each quarter and semester. These accomplishments are impressive on their own, but they become even more meaningful when you consider the moral and empathetic qualities they embody.
🎓 With loving and compassionate hearts, they continue to serve as Youth Spokespersons and Leaders in the Community and on behalf of families with special needs and neurodiversity.
🎓As older siblings of a child with special needs, having helped care for older grandparents, and living in a household where disability is present, they have a very quick and keen ability to understand the needs of others uniquely.
🎓 Yet, they choose to dedicate their free time to support other families and siblings facing similar challenges. Whenever someone needs a helping hand, it’s often said, “The twins will help.”
🎓 Their intelligence makes us proud, while the content of your character fills us with love and admiration.
🎓 Congratulations, Jonathan and Jeremy! We love you beyond words. The gifts and talents that God has bestowed on each of you are a blessing to have nurtured and continue to water to fruition.
🎓We are looking forward to being able to get away with both of you and spend quality time together as a family! 💙💙 #classof2026 #graduation #DynamicDuo #twins #identicaltwins

🐣 100 VIP (special needs & neurodiverse) individuals were preregistered, & 200 attended. With Hope Torchlighters being a trusted resource since 2018, some VIP families came from as far as 4 hours away to participate.
🐣 On behalf of Hope Torchlighters & myself, we want to thank the @cityofgroveland @cityofgrovelandparks for hosting the City’s 1st Sensory Easter Egg Hunt at Cherry Lake Park—one of the newest parks in Groveland.
🐣 The AMAZING bilingual advocate of Luzel Garcia, Founder, The Dream Academy, a K-12 school that is open for students with various disabilities. thedreamacademyfl.com
🐣 The other WONDERFUL advocate of Tania Santos, representing WeSpeak: Parent Support Group of Lake County (founded by our dear friend & founding community resource Kandi Lynn Alexander).
📸 🎨 We also want to highlight two (2) incredible professional services that, without them, the day would have been incomplete.
📸 Lety Rubio, a truly multi-talented Central Florida photographer, owns Cherry Blossom Photography. She provided all the photography that we are sharing, and her work is BEAUTIFUL! You need a photographer? Don’t walk, but RUN to book a session with her! You can find her at https://cherryblossomphotog.shootproof.com/

🎨 Just in time for the new website launch on April 30 and the Egg Hunt, Hope Torchlighters needed an updated logo redesign. I am a firm believer that our VIP families deserve the best, like any other family. It’s why we seek out professionals in every area. I’m very grateful to Henry Alfonzo, a Multimedia Graphic Designer for our government, for providing his design services for the new logo. My wonderful friend is extremely creatively gifted and can be reached via his website at https://phonzie97.wixsite.com/designer-graphic
🐣 Thank you to @tvsouthlake, @pastortonymccoy, & @pastorjodiemccoy & @hopeinternationalchurch for their continued support towards our event & VIP families!
🐣 Happy Easter to all!
