Op-Ed: Even When We Disagree, Murder Cannot Be Tolerated

South Florida — September 15, 2025 — (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) — I was deeply shocked and pained to hear about the murder of Charlie Kirk. I have to be honest—I was not a big fan of his rhetoric. As the child of immigrants and a Hispanic woman, I often felt he was too ultra-conservative for me. But that never diminished my belief that he had every right to express his views. That right, enshrined in our Constitution, is sacred to every American.
Charlie Kirk was only 31 years old, with his whole life ahead of him. He was a brightly shining star whose voice, whether you agreed with it or not, had an impact. That star was snuffed out far too soon, and it is heartbreaking—heartbreaking for his family, his wife and children, his loved ones, his friends, and for all those who admired him.
We are a nation built “of the people, by the people, for the people,” and that structure depends on respecting free speech—even when what is said makes us uncomfortable or when we fundamentally disagree. Brave men and women have fought and died to protect those freedoms, so that we can debate, dissent, and still coexist peacefully.
What sickens me most is that someone believed they had the right to take a life to silence a voice. The commandment “thou shalt not kill” is among the oldest of moral laws. It is not conditional—it does not say “unless you disagree.” It says no one has the right to take another life. To murder a man in front of his wife and children, and then to see others cheering in response, is utterly disgusting. It is not who we are as Americans, and it is not what our country stands for.
At a time when division and intolerance seem to grow louder by the day, Charlie Kirk’s murder must not be misjudged or minimized. This was not politics. This was not debate. It was an act of sheer brutality and violence, and that is something we cannot and must not tolerate.
His death is a tragedy—not just for his family, but for our country. If nothing else, let it remind us that disagreement does not make us enemies. Violence is not the answer. Our Constitution, our history, and our shared humanity demand better of us.
