Get Creative with DIY Halloween Costumes at Goodwill (+ $25 Gift Card Giveaway)

in brands, contributors, disney, families, giveaways, holidays, parenting, reviews, savings, shopping on 10/17/16

Growing up, Halloween was one of the biggest holidays in my household! My mother was a costume making superstar! I’m talking, banana trees, caterpillars, and life size baby bottles! Though I have a long way to go before matching her creative abilities, I have one tool my mom didn’t … the wonderful world of Pinterest-inspiration! So with a little browsing, motivation, and hubby’s blessing, I packed up my spunky toddler and set out for materials at our local Goodwill Industries of Central Florida store!

 Goodwill Industries of Central Florida

I arrived with the idea that we would be Disney & Pixar’s Finding Nemo characters.Β  I’d figure out the specifics based on what materials were available and Goodwill did not disappoint!

If you aren’t looking to create a costume yourself, they have a huge selection of already made costumes right now. There were five or six racks with anything from princess dresses and wigs to masks and costume make up. I actually got to chatting with another mom, who was also shopping for Halloween costumes, while we were there and we both were pleased with vast selections and very affordable prices.

We were able to find all our main DIY materials at Goodwill.Β  With a little creativity and our Goodwill finds, Payton will be dressed as Nemo, my husband, David, will be Dory and I will be a Jellyfish for Halloween this year!

Halloween costumes are typically only worn once, so why not find a low-cost costume and help support our community in the process? When we shop at or donate to Goodwill, we are helping to keep items out of landfills and funding job training and placement programs that assist Central Floridians with barriers to employment. This includes people with disabilities, those with limited work history, military veterans transitioning to civilian jobs, as well as others within the community.

In 2015, Goodwill served approximately 42,000 people in its Job Connection Centers across Central Florida!

After Halloween, please consider donating your costumes to Goodwill instead of packing them away in the attic. With convenient drop-off sites and dozens of stores, it’s easy to make a donation…and to make a lasting impact in your community. To find a location near you, visit www.goodwillcfl.org

Thanks to our friends at Goodwill, we are giving away a $25 Goodwill gift card to help you create your own DIY Halloween costume and help support our communities!Β  One winner will be chosen at random. No purchase necessary.Β  You can enter the giveaway more than once using the Rafflecopter entry form below.

We always make our own Halloween costumes, and Goodwill has always been a great place to find the pieces we need. One point here that I had not considered is to remember to donate those items back when done.

πŸ•ŠοΈHappy Heavenly Birthday, My Beautiful Mommy! You are deeply missed and loved every day. Your influence is felt in many ways, from the endless love you gave and your wonderful sense of humor to the strength of character and faith you carried. You consistently supported numerous people, organizations, businesses, non-profits, and churches for over 50 years.
πŸ•ŠοΈIt is very important to meβ€”and to your grandsonsβ€”to continue honoring you (and Daddy) on your special days and by living a life that reflects the trailblazing lives you both led. More than that, it’s the faith and love you instilled in us. The loss still feels fresh, as if it happened yesterday. When someone irreplaceable is no longer physically with you, it’s not something you simply β€œget over.”
πŸ•ŠοΈ I am grateful that I saw how you and Dad handled your grief over losing your parents. You both kept living fully, enjoying all of God’s blessings while still honoring, remembering, and grieving for your parentsβ€”my beloved grandparentsβ€”for the rest of your lives. As the end approached for both of you, just 18 months apart, you both gave me the greatest gifts any daughter, who was also your caregiver, could ever ask for; you both told me how proud and thankful they were of me as a woman, mother, daughter, in my career, and in the life I had chosen to be with them. It was a blessing from God that I could be with you throughout my life and in your final moments.
πŸ•ŠοΈ Thank you for being my Mommy, my best friend, the best Mama for your grandsons, and everything I could ever need. I will love you for all eternity.
