My Husband loves being a soldier; he loves being a leader, the training, the responsibility, and the fact that he is required to be in shape. If my Husband could live at the gym, he would. The only difficult part of being a soldier for him would have to be the yearlong deployments and training. These things require him to be away from home, anywhere from a few weeks to a year. These are the times where he and many other soldiers wonder if their sacrifice is worth being away from their families. Some soldier’s will miss their child’s first steps, their first words, birthdays, holidays, and in some cases even the birth of their child. My Husband has missed our daughters’ first steps, their first birthday, and the first time our son crawled, and will most likely not be here when our babies take their first steps either.

Yet, these soldiers still willingly reenlist, in a majority of cases it is because they love their job and they love serving this country. Many people might not support the war, but the least the American people can do is show the troops that their sacrifices are appreciated. Knowing that there are Americans who are grateful for all that they do, boosts the morale of the soldiers who are out there fighting to protect us. This is why I urge everyone to support this wonderful campaign and “Shake Hands with A Hero.”
