Being a bilingual mother with a preteen and toddler twins, its important for me to incorporate my Hispanic roots into the lives of my children.  Teaching the Spanish language to my kids and keeping my own Spanish speaking skills intact is part of my daily routine.  For young children, its a helpful to have educational programming that is in Spanish to assist with learning of the Spanish language.  Trying to be a well versed mother, I try to attain resourceful information especially in the fields of parenting, household management, and health issues.  A network helping all Hispanic mothers with their needs is Discovery Familia.

As most mothers of pre-schoolers will understand, quality educational shows is needed and wanted to assist in the learning process.  During the day, Discovery Familia provides a number of curriculum based programs during its Discovery Kids programming block designed to prepare preschoolers for the real world by sparking curiosity and encouraging independent thinking, while preserving the Spanish language. Shows such as: My Big Big Friend, Animal Mechanicals and Fluffy Gardens carry preschoolers to amazing worlds of exploration and offer a safe haven where moms and their children can interact and share quality time.  
In most Spanish language networks, nighttime is often saved for telenovelas, the Spanish language soap operas that many Hispanic women enjoy at night. Once the kids are put to bed, Discovery Familia is all about the needs of moms. The new nighttime programming is divided into three programming categories: My Kids, My Home and My Time.

• “My Time” offers mothers an escape from their daily routines. It is a place where they can come to relax with programs on beauty and wellness, travel and fashion. Among these are: Espacio Vital, Nosotras and What’s Good for You.

Jeannette Torres-Álvarez, is the network’s new brand ambassador and host of “Nuestros Hijos” (“Our children”), a series of informative vignettes, where Jeannette will share her advice as an early childhood expert and mother on diverse topics such as: the good use of technology, maintaining the Spanish language alive in the home, overcoming homework roadblocks and how to take the best advantage of family time.
