PRESS RELEASE - Wed, 21 Aug 2024 13:22:28

— ‘Georgia Latino International Film Festival brings celebrities, actors, local businesses and Latino creatives together to highlight International Films and Georgia’s Thriving Film Industry’ —

SOURCE: NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE

ATLANTA, GA — August 21, 2024 — (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) — The 13th annual Georgia Latino International Film Festival (GALIFF) is proud to announce this year’s festival will be held from Sept. 26 – 29, 2024. The four-day festival brings a plethora of Georgia filmmakers, Latino creatives, celebrities, and other industry professionals dedicated to celebrating Latino-made and inspired cinematic projects.

As the premier film festival and the only Afro Latino curated film festival in the Southeast, GALIFF continues to shine the spotlight on talented Georgia creatives and Latino filmmakers from around the world, providing an intimate setting that fosters networking, idea exchange, and artistic growth for filmmakers and film enthusiasts alike.

"I'm thrilled to continue amplifying the voices of the next generation of Latino storytellers. Thirteen years later, the mission of the Georgia Latino International Film Festival remains as strong as ever," said Jose Marquez, CEO of GALFA. "From the very beginning, our goal has been to create a platform where Latino artists and independent filmmakers of color can showcase their art and tell their stories. We are proud to support this vibrant community and celebrate the diversity and creativity that drives our industry forward.”

Attendees will be immersed in a world of captivating storytelling, featuring films and directors from all over the United States, Peru, Spain, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean. GALIFF strives to bridge cultures, transcend borders, and nurture the creativity and vision of filmmakers.

"The Georgia Latino International Film Festival is a vital part of Georgia’s entertainment ecosystem and the development of Latino filmmakers in our state," said Yvette Moise, President of GALFA. "Without this festival, Georgia’s Latino community would not see themselves represented in our entertainment industry. We are committed to ensuring that their stories are told and their voices are heard."

There is a concerted effort, on behalf of the festival organizers, to include every community in the state of Georgia and beyond, to attend the festival and experience Latino culture: food, films, and music.

Held during Hispanic Heritage month, this year’s festival will feature the U.S. premiere of Mimi and Tony: La Creación de Un Sueño, a captivating new film exploring the life and legacy of renowned Latin American artist, Mimi Succar. The film is directed by her son, Tony Succar, a three-time Grammy Award winner. This highly anticipated film will be showcased at GALIFF VIP Opening Night celebration about our rich cultural storytelling and unique artistic perspectives.

Mimi and Tony: La Creación de Un Sueño is a heartfelt documentary that chronicles the inspiring journey of Mimi Succar, whose artistic achievements have left an indelible mark on the Latin American/Peruvian art scene. Through Tony Succar’s personal lens, the film offers an intimate portrayal of Mimi’s career, her impact on the arts, and the profound mother-son relationship that shaped her legacy. Tony Succar, acclaimed for his musical contributions and dedication to cultural projects, brings a deeply personal touch to this film. His directorial debut provides an unparalleled insight into his mother’s life, blending historical context with intimate family moments.

“The U.S. premiere of Mimi and Tony: La Creación de Un Sueño is a testament to the festival’s commitment to showcasing powerful narratives and fostering cross-cultural dialogue,” notes Norelie Garcia Chairwoman of GALIFF. “GALIFF is honored to present this extraordinary film as part of its mission to highlight diverse voices and celebrate the richness of Latino culture.”

The holidays can be beautiful… but for many grieving parents — especially special needs parents — this season hurts in ways most people never see.

Between disrupted routines, sensory overload, and the ache of missing someone you love, December can feel overwhelming. And here’s what most don’t realize:

Nearly HALF of Christians stop attending church after losing a loved one… not because they’ve lost their faith, but because they feel the church doesn’t know how to walk with them through grief.
These families aren’t leaving God —
they’re leaving because they feel unseen in their pain.

As someone who advocates for families of ALL abilities, I’m sharing a new blog post today on how we can support grieving loved ones — especially special needs parents — with compassion, faith, and presence this holiday season.

If someone in your life is grieving, please don’t stay silent.
Say their loved one’s name.
Offer specific help.
Create space for their emotions.
Pray with them.
Walk with them — gently, consistently, faithfully.

Because no parent should have to grieve alone during the holidays.

🏆 Earlier this week, I was once again filled with thankfulness, love, and faith.
🏆 I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Home Health Care USA for naming me the “Latina American Caregiver of the Year!”
🏆 Caregivers are among the unsung heroes in our society, and there are many different types of caregivers. For instance, the “Sandwich Generation” refers to individuals who are caring for both their aging parents and their children simultaneously. These caregivers often provide physical, emotional, and financial support. More than 50% of Americans in their 40s and 50s are currently caring for both their children and their senior parents—and usually without any help from extended family.
🏆 Some caregivers dedicate their entire lives to caring for a child—or children—with disabilities into adulthood. Unfortunately, many caregiving parents or family members do not get a break or have quality time for themselves. About 50% of couples with special needs or neurodiverse children end up getting divorced.
🏆 Having experienced both of these caregiving situations and still living within them, being named “Latina American Caregiver of the Year” means more to me than just an award. It symbolizes the millions of unpaid caretakers across the country who provide loving, effective care for family members or friends.
🏆 I also want to extend my gratitude to all those who have followed my caregiving journey the past 17 years, including my care for my beloved late parents and my superhero, Joshua, on my social channels, Mami of Multiples, and Dr. Joscelyn Ramos Campbell. The BEST is yet to come! 🙌
🌎 Lastly, congratulations to all my fellow winners standing on stage. Your work in your communities helps make the world a better place!
