Growing up in New York, I loved the holidays in the Big Apple. Every year the City was beautifully decorated with flashes of multi-colored lights, tinsel, and spectacular holiday images. My family would always try to attend the lighting ceremony of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree followed by a leisurely stroll of the gorgeously decorated Macy’s storefront windows. The Macy’s windows were part of holiday traditions for tourists and native New Yorkers. Each window pane had a unique and animated holiday theme that always looked so magical as if Santa Claus and his helpers had decorated it themselves. The holidays were not complete without a visit to Macy’s, because it truly heralded in the holiday season.
Toward the latter part of the year, the annual family excursion to Radio City Musical Hall to see the world famous Radio City Rockettes, filled me with so much joy. The Rockettes were absolutely stunning in their shining costumes dancing around the stage in total synchronization. I used to stand in front of a mirror and practice for hours one of their signature moves, the high leg kick.
