General Mills, QueRicaVida.com, and Latina Bloggers Are Leading The Way For Latino Families

in brands, families, food, latinos, multiples, parenting, savings, technology on 05/24/10

(Photo Courtesy of Manny Ruiz, Publisher, “Hispanic PR Blog” http://www.hispanicprblog.com/)
General Mills has re-launched the Spanish-language website, QueRicaVida.com, at premiere event in Miami on May 20.  General Mills has boarden their reach to the Latino market with QueRicaVida.com, which offers parenting resources, health and education information, savings tips, recipes, and much more.
In an effort to show their outreach to the Latino community, General Mills not only extended an invitation to the press for the QueRicaVida.com re-launch event, but also to an exclusive group of Latina bloggers who are the in the forefront of representing the Latino family and communities.  I was honored to be representing Mami & The Multiples and to be part of such an amazingly talented group of Latina mothers, bloggers, and entrepreneurs. (A fantastic individual, who is Publisher of Hispanic PR Blog and creator of PapiBlogger, is Manny Ruiz.  I thank him for the beautiful photo at the beginning of this post taken while he was covering the event.)
Most of the Latina bloggers knew each other via the social media methods and were all delighted to meet each other in “real life”.
The event was emceed by the co-host of Sabado Gigante, Javier Romero, with other Latino celebrities in attendance, including, TV personality and actress, Angelica Vale; actress & Yoplait spokesperson, Adamari Lopez; and morning show host, Karla Martinez; and Dra. Aliza.
All of the Latina bloggers invited represent a growing and large trend in social media, the Latino market.  With Latinos gearing to be the leading ethnic group in America, the untapped Latino market holds a vast of wealth and opportunities for major brands and companies.  The invited Latina bloggers are daily creating reviews of major brand products, dispensing parenting and family advice, offering household tips, and can make (or sway) the minds of the decision makers in the households across America & Latin America.
General Mills has taken a great (and profitable) step to invite and cater to the leading Latina bloggers in social media today.  Brand giants should follow suit to gain access and capture the Latino market via these leading ladies.
(To see a list of the majority of the Latina bloggers invited by General Mills, please visit this list provided by Mama Contemporanea: http://www.mamacontemporanea.com/2010/05/que-rica-vida-25-blogueras-latinas.html)
On a side note, in what can only be called a sheer and pure moment of “insanity”, I dared to get up on stage and sing with a beautiful Mariachi band the famous Mexican song, Volver Volver.  The only way I can explain it is that the brights lights of stage, the cheering of my fellow Latina bloggers, and Javier Romero looking at me was all to overpowering for me. I had no choice but to succumb to the allure of the stage. 🙂 Thank you Latinaish for recording the video–I don’t need anyone to embarrass me since I can do a pretty good job of that on my own! 🙂

That was the most amazing experience I have had in such a long time. I loved meeting you and all the other bloggers in person. General Mills truly made me feel welcomed! I agree with you- I believe General Mills knows the potential of our ability to connect with an audience, otherwise we would have never been there.

The holidays can be beautiful… but for many grieving parents — especially special needs parents — this season hurts in ways most people never see.

Between disrupted routines, sensory overload, and the ache of missing someone you love, December can feel overwhelming. And here’s what most don’t realize:

Nearly HALF of Christians stop attending church after losing a loved one… not because they’ve lost their faith, but because they feel the church doesn’t know how to walk with them through grief.
These families aren’t leaving God —
they’re leaving because they feel unseen in their pain.

As someone who advocates for families of ALL abilities, I’m sharing a new blog post today on how we can support grieving loved ones — especially special needs parents — with compassion, faith, and presence this holiday season.

If someone in your life is grieving, please don’t stay silent.
Say their loved one’s name.
Offer specific help.
Create space for their emotions.
Pray with them.
Walk with them — gently, consistently, faithfully.

Because no parent should have to grieve alone during the holidays.

🏆 Earlier this week, I was once again filled with thankfulness, love, and faith.
🏆 I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Home Health Care USA for naming me the “Latina American Caregiver of the Year!”
🏆 Caregivers are among the unsung heroes in our society, and there are many different types of caregivers. For instance, the “Sandwich Generation” refers to individuals who are caring for both their aging parents and their children simultaneously. These caregivers often provide physical, emotional, and financial support. More than 50% of Americans in their 40s and 50s are currently caring for both their children and their senior parents—and usually without any help from extended family.
🏆 Some caregivers dedicate their entire lives to caring for a child—or children—with disabilities into adulthood. Unfortunately, many caregiving parents or family members do not get a break or have quality time for themselves. About 50% of couples with special needs or neurodiverse children end up getting divorced.
🏆 Having experienced both of these caregiving situations and still living within them, being named “Latina American Caregiver of the Year” means more to me than just an award. It symbolizes the millions of unpaid caretakers across the country who provide loving, effective care for family members or friends.
🏆 I also want to extend my gratitude to all those who have followed my caregiving journey the past 17 years, including my care for my beloved late parents and my superhero, Joshua, on my social channels, Mami of Multiples, and Dr. Joscelyn Ramos Campbell. The BEST is yet to come! 🙌
🌎 Lastly, congratulations to all my fellow winners standing on stage. Your work in your communities helps make the world a better place!
