Celebrate Parenthood with The First Years Welcome to The Family Video Series and Giveaway

in entertainment, families, giveaways, parenting, reviews on 02/09/15

It’s a wonderfully unique time for my family with upcoming birth of our new baby boy in April. Our teen boy is a junior in high school (soon to be entering his senior year), the twin boys are turned seven years old and are active first graders so with the birth of #BabyJ we will have 4 boys (and one hard-working Daddy). We are really raising children across the spectrum from teen/high school to elementary school and now a newborn in a multi-cultural home. All families are unique but parenthood have the common feelings that all parents experience…love, joy, happiness, apprehension, surprises and much more.

WTF Enter Now

To celebrate the real journey of parenthood, The First Years, a leading manufacturer of juvenile products for more than 60 years, is looking for a cast of characters from a wide variety of backgrounds to star in their “Welcome to The Family” online reality series. Families from across the country who are expecting or have recently welcomed a baby can enter The First Years Welcome to The Family Video Series contest for their chance to win a starring role, plus awesome prizes including an iPad Air 2, $2,000 worth of baby products and a $5,000 savings bond.
“The First Years totally gets what the first years of life are really like, which is far from picture-perfect,” said Willie Wilkov, Chief Marketing Officer, TOMY International. “Our video contest is all about documenting the joy, laughter and unpredictable moments that quite often become the most memorable ones. We’re celebrating real families and the individual experiences that make their parenting journey all their own.”
New parents (with children ages newborn to 20 months) and parents who are expecting a new arrival before June 1, 2015 are invited to enter the contest beginning February 1, 2015 and ending Sunday, March 1, 2015 at family.thefirstyears.com by submitting:
  1. A Story: In 100 words or less, parents will be asked to describe what makes their new family totally unique by giving an up-close-and-personal look at the parenting journey their family is taking. The more individual their story is, the better!
  2.  A Video: Parents will be asked to share a 30- to 60-second video that shows what parenting moments are really like in their home – the good, the bad and the “I-can’t-believe-that-happened” moments. Think reality TV, only actually real – no holds barred! The deadline for entering The First Years Welcome to The Family Video Series contest is Sunday, March 1, 2015.
How to Become The First Years Welcome to The Family Video Series Online Reality Stars!
All entries will be narrowed down to a field of up to 20 finalists, selected by a panel of judges looking for entries that best fit the story and video criteria in the Official Rules for The First Years Welcome to The Family Video Series contest. Once the finalists are selected, it’s up to the general public to help choose up to five grand prize winners, following the criteria in the Official Rules. America can vote daily from March 12, 2015 to March 20, 2015, and everyone who votes will automatically be entered for the chance to score a $100 gift card!
Families chosen as the grand prize winners will each receive $2,000 worth of baby products, plus an Apple iPad Air 2 to capture video of everything from the tiniest moments to the major milestones in their household. Each week for 12 weeks, these winning families will send 5 to 10 minutes of video footage to The First Years professional video editor. He’ll work his magic by using their actual footage to weave together a story of what life is really like during those wild, wonderful first years of parenting. Each winning family that completes this 12 week project will also earn a $5,000 savings bond for their child!
Here’s a quick timeline for The First Years Welcome to The Family Video Series contest:
February 1 to March 1, 2015: Families submit stories and videos on family.thefirstyears.com
March 2 to March 11: Videos are evaluated by The First Years judging panel
March 12: Finalists are publicly announced
March 12 to March 20: The public votes to help select up to 5 grand prize winners
On or around April 7: The First Years Welcome to The Family Video Series winners are announced!
June to August: Each winning family’s story comes to life on The First Years YouTube channel, in a new weekly online reality series!
For detailed information on how to enter The First Years Welcome to The Family Video Series contest, including specific video instructions, an official entry form and the official contest rules, go to family.thefirstyears.com. No purchase necessary. A purchase will not improve your chances of winning. Void where prohibited or regulated.
Thank to The First Years, we are hosting The First Years baby products giveaway (which is a sampling of what the contest grand prize winners will receive).

Each household is only eligible to win 3 TOMY product prize packages, via blog reviews and giveaways, each calendar year. Only one entrant per household per giveaway. If you have won the same product prize package on another blog, you will not be eligible to win it again. Winner is subject to eligibility verification.

The holidays can be beautiful… but for many grieving parents — especially special needs parents — this season hurts in ways most people never see.

Between disrupted routines, sensory overload, and the ache of missing someone you love, December can feel overwhelming. And here’s what most don’t realize:

Nearly HALF of Christians stop attending church after losing a loved one… not because they’ve lost their faith, but because they feel the church doesn’t know how to walk with them through grief.
These families aren’t leaving God —
they’re leaving because they feel unseen in their pain.

As someone who advocates for families of ALL abilities, I’m sharing a new blog post today on how we can support grieving loved ones — especially special needs parents — with compassion, faith, and presence this holiday season.

If someone in your life is grieving, please don’t stay silent.
Say their loved one’s name.
Offer specific help.
Create space for their emotions.
Pray with them.
Walk with them — gently, consistently, faithfully.

Because no parent should have to grieve alone during the holidays.

🏆 Earlier this week, I was once again filled with thankfulness, love, and faith.
🏆 I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Home Health Care USA for naming me the “Latina American Caregiver of the Year!”
🏆 Caregivers are among the unsung heroes in our society, and there are many different types of caregivers. For instance, the “Sandwich Generation” refers to individuals who are caring for both their aging parents and their children simultaneously. These caregivers often provide physical, emotional, and financial support. More than 50% of Americans in their 40s and 50s are currently caring for both their children and their senior parents—and usually without any help from extended family.
🏆 Some caregivers dedicate their entire lives to caring for a child—or children—with disabilities into adulthood. Unfortunately, many caregiving parents or family members do not get a break or have quality time for themselves. About 50% of couples with special needs or neurodiverse children end up getting divorced.
🏆 Having experienced both of these caregiving situations and still living within them, being named “Latina American Caregiver of the Year” means more to me than just an award. It symbolizes the millions of unpaid caretakers across the country who provide loving, effective care for family members or friends.
🏆 I also want to extend my gratitude to all those who have followed my caregiving journey the past 17 years, including my care for my beloved late parents and my superhero, Joshua, on my social channels, Mami of Multiples, and Dr. Joscelyn Ramos Campbell. The BEST is yet to come! 🙌
🌎 Lastly, congratulations to all my fellow winners standing on stage. Your work in your communities helps make the world a better place!
