Choosing the Best Swimwear with Maidenform Swimwear

in beauty, brands, families, family outing, multiples, parenting, savings, travel on 08/29/11

To celebrate the last few weeks of summer and with Labor Day around the corner many families are planning to head to the beach or pool.  One obstacle in preparing to enjoy the water for most women is finding the right swimsuit.  Finding the right swimsuit that fits a woman’s unique body proportions can be a quite challenge and often discouraging.  Trying to find the perfect swimsuit that will flatter a body whose measurements might be small on the top but larger on the bottom or larger on the top and smaller on the bottom is no easy task.  Often a part of a two-piece suit will not fit well (or cover-up unwanted areas) and a one piece can sometimes be unflattering to a woman’s body.  Mothers can especially relate that after having a child(ren), a woman’s body drastically changes.  Her pre-baby body (and weight) can be very much an inspiring fitness goal but is not always a current reality when the time comes to put on a swimsuit. Women want comfort without always having to sacrifice style to achieve it.  Knowing the dilemma facing all women, Maidenform, the global intimate apparel company, has launched the Maidenform Swimwear collection.

The Maidenform Swimwear line is a mix and match collection designed to flatter any figure, in all shapes and sizes. The line features Maidenform’s Custom Lift® technologies and the lift and support functions from Maidenform’s Lilyette® bras. The Custom Lift utilizes the same innovative padding system that may be found in Maidenform’s Custom Lift bra, ranked #1 pushup bra in domestic department and national chain stores. This lift feature adjusts in size and shape as the cup size increases.

The Lift & Support fit mimics the same exact technology found in Maidenform’s Lilyette® bras, and is ideal for larger busts. The hidden sling panel brings side support to the chest, while adjusting to the size and shape of the wearer.  Sizes offered in the Custom Lift fit are 34A-C; 36B-D; 38B-C. The Lift & Support fit is available in 34C-38DD. Bottoms are offered in S-XL.

As a “larger on the top” woman and mother living in Florida the concept of having to wear swimwear throughout the year is definitely a reality.  Like most women I was looking for flattering fashionable swimwear that was affordable and comfortable.

Maidenform Swimwear spokesperson Teresa DeBruno was able to provide the following helpful tips when choosing the best swimwear:

Q. What are your thoughts on mixing printed and solid separates? Should the print always be the top, and the bottom the solid?
A. Generally, the solid is on the bottom and the print is on top. Most women want to draw the eye away from the tummy / hip/ thigh area. The beauty with mix and match separates is that the customer can find her perfect size while choosing from different prints and solids to suit her personal taste.

 Q. What swimsuit top style is best for large busts? For small busts?
A. For a large bust, the customer is looking for support.  Underwires
help as long as they have ample strap support to hold up a heavier
bust.  The smaller busted customer generally wants to look more
endowed.  The Maidenform Swimwear Custom Lift bras and tankinis have
the patented cups which offer more push-up padding in the smaller
sizes–and have progressively less padding as the cup sizes get
bigger. These offer a natural, fuller look.

Q. If you’re looking to slenderize your silhouette, which is a better choice: colors or prints?
 A. In general, prints offer more camouflage by “breaking up the pallet” (your body).  Solids will show every bump and curve with some exceptions;shirring or trim details will draw the eye away from what you don’t want to emphasize.

Q. What is your opinion when it comes to size selection? Do you agree it’s always better to go a little bigger vs smaller, since fabrics can shrink, etc?
A. Swimwear fabric (which is a nylon / spandex blend) should not have a shrink factor.  A customer should purchase the size that fits her in the store (or at home for e-commerce).  If it gets bigger, it means she has worn it “to death” and the spandex is breaking down….time for a new swimsuit!

I loved the fact that Maidenform offered styles that could mix or match while still complimenting each other.  I needed top support while still creating a flattering overall look.   I choose the Maidenform® Jet Set Swim Tankini and Maidenform® Side Shirred Hipster Swim Skirt.

The built in bra with adjustable straps gave me full support, which is very much needed in the water, and the swim skirt provided an elastic waistband for fit flexibility.  As mother of 3 active boys, I certainly need the protection Maidenform swimwear offers so that the larger assets of my body will not be on display to the public when bouncing around on the water. 🙂
I felt secure and comfortable using the Maidenform Swimwear and still felt like I had a “pretty” swimsuit.  The fact that any women-regardless of shape or size-can find a flattering and fashionable swimsuit at affordable prices is a much needed and a great value.

Totally made me laugh when you said that you didn’t want your “larger assets” to be on dispaly to the public…funny! All Moms can relate to that! 🙂

I love the swimsuit you chose! I’m a big fan of swim skirts. As I get older and my body gets lumpy in places it didn’t used to get lumpy (and I’m not even a mom yet…ay dios), it’s gotten harder and harder to choose a swimsuit for family vacations. And of course, whenever I find one I really like that doesn’t make me look like I’m trying to be 18 again, it costs an arm and a leg. I’m frankly really tired of spending well over $100 on a single swimsuit and not even feeling that good about myself while wearing it. I’m definitely going to check these out! Thanks for the reco!

The holidays can be beautiful… but for many grieving parents — especially special needs parents — this season hurts in ways most people never see.

Between disrupted routines, sensory overload, and the ache of missing someone you love, December can feel overwhelming. And here’s what most don’t realize:

Nearly HALF of Christians stop attending church after losing a loved one… not because they’ve lost their faith, but because they feel the church doesn’t know how to walk with them through grief.
These families aren’t leaving God —
they’re leaving because they feel unseen in their pain.

As someone who advocates for families of ALL abilities, I’m sharing a new blog post today on how we can support grieving loved ones — especially special needs parents — with compassion, faith, and presence this holiday season.

If someone in your life is grieving, please don’t stay silent.
Say their loved one’s name.
Offer specific help.
Create space for their emotions.
Pray with them.
Walk with them — gently, consistently, faithfully.

Because no parent should have to grieve alone during the holidays.

🏆 Earlier this week, I was once again filled with thankfulness, love, and faith.
🏆 I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Home Health Care USA for naming me the “Latina American Caregiver of the Year!”
🏆 Caregivers are among the unsung heroes in our society, and there are many different types of caregivers. For instance, the “Sandwich Generation” refers to individuals who are caring for both their aging parents and their children simultaneously. These caregivers often provide physical, emotional, and financial support. More than 50% of Americans in their 40s and 50s are currently caring for both their children and their senior parents—and usually without any help from extended family.
🏆 Some caregivers dedicate their entire lives to caring for a child—or children—with disabilities into adulthood. Unfortunately, many caregiving parents or family members do not get a break or have quality time for themselves. About 50% of couples with special needs or neurodiverse children end up getting divorced.
🏆 Having experienced both of these caregiving situations and still living within them, being named “Latina American Caregiver of the Year” means more to me than just an award. It symbolizes the millions of unpaid caretakers across the country who provide loving, effective care for family members or friends.
🏆 I also want to extend my gratitude to all those who have followed my caregiving journey the past 17 years, including my care for my beloved late parents and my superhero, Joshua, on my social channels, Mami of Multiples, and Dr. Joscelyn Ramos Campbell. The BEST is yet to come! 🙌
🌎 Lastly, congratulations to all my fellow winners standing on stage. Your work in your communities helps make the world a better place!
