VSP Vision Care Pledge for the Boys & Girls Club and $200 Visa Giftcard Giveaway

in education, families, family outing, giveaways, health, technology on 10/05/11

As a child my parents took great care to make sure I was healthy and that included check-ups to eye care professionals.  Even though some of family did to need wear glasses later in life, my parents concern & care about proper eye care did help me.  I didn’t have to wear glasses until I was an adult and of course I now like to joke that I would be walking around blind if I didn’t wear my glasses. 🙂 My teen son does wear glasses for seeing objects at a further distance and I’m thankful–that just like my parents did with me–I take him annually (or twice a year) to check his vision.

Eye health plays a critical role in your child’s ability to learn, play and develop. And, unfortunately, one in four students across the country has a visual impairment problem, many of which have gone undiagnosed.

To bring attention to the importance of eye health, VSP Vision Care launched the VSP Eye Pledge campaign, a free and easy way to donate an eye exam and glasses to a Boys & Girls Club member in need.  VSP has pledged to donate up to 50,000 eye exams worth more than $19 million dollars!

Taking the VSP Eye Pledge is totally free for you and only takes a few seconds, just follow these three easy steps:

 (1)  Go to www.seemuchmore.com/eyepledge

 (2)  Pledge to take care of your eye health, which is an integral part of your overall health

 (3)  Direct the donation to either the local club of your choice (by inserting your zip code) or a club in the U.S. with the most need.

The pledge is a free and easy way to donate an eye exam and glasses to a Boys & Girls Club member in need. For every pledge someone takes, VSP will donate an eye exam and brand new pair of glasses to a Boys & Girls Club member on their behalf. It only takes a few seconds and is a great way to give back to your local Boys & Girls Club and change the life of a child.
To bring even greater attention to this great cause, VSP is offering a $200 Visa Giftcard as a giveaway!

I took the pledge! My grandmother had catarac issues and had to have a transplant. I’m glad someone was there for her when she needed them. And everyone in my family has glasses so I’m aware of the chances of my eyes going to pot on me! And I want to make sure that I keep my eyes healthy, as well as my kids, with regularly scheduled checkups!

I took the pledge and am happy to share b/c I used to wear glasses in junior high. kind of liked it but then i realized why i was wearing them. fortunately, i now have 20/20 vision and am super thankful for it. In contrast, my sis, whom is a Dr. can barely see if she doesn’t have her contacts or lens’s on. Seeing is everything. It can protect you from what you need to know and not know!

Bren Herrera mentioned this post, and it’s a great thing that you’re doing! I wear glasses out of necessity, but also for ‘style’ reasons. I like the look of them. Regardless, I know that having vision is a blessing no matter what, so it’s an important thing to take care of if you can.

I took the pledge because I have been wearing glasses since second grade. I am now 28 and go to the eye doctor every single year. I have an enlarged optic nerve so they have to closely monitor it to see if I am loosing any periferal vision. My eyes are so bad my contacts are not commercially available and have to be special ordered. (they are a -13.50). I want to keep my eyes as healthy as possible even if I have low vision!

  34. Abby Falcon says

    October 12, 2011 at 7:55 PM

My entire family has always worn glasses. Checking our eyes is totally necessary. Without getting our eyes checked and our glasses adjusted to their proper strength, my family has suffered headaches, health issues, blurry vision and much more. Its a common fact of life for us so we try our hardest to maintain proper eye health. We proudly support and are glad that VSP has created the Eye Pledge to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of America. No child should have to suffer from vision problems. Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway.

Oh, sweet boy. To know you is to love you. While you may not talk much yet, your understanding and receptive language skills has grown tremendously. Even as a very smiley infant (pre-Autism), you would look at people intently and stop smiling or even cry if you didn’t like something about them. Today, this has deepened. When you’re uncomfortable with someone, you back away, narrow your eyes at their gaze, and refrain from smiling or laughing towards them. You won’t hug them or verbally say Hi or Goodbye to them. You express your feelings clearly—it’s a God-given discernment.

Your birth and life has been and continues to be a call to action. We have launched, expanded, and are continuously developing programs that are providing aid, counseling, empowerment, job training, support, resources, and so much more to families with special needs and those who are neurodiverse. As we advocate for others, we will always prioritize you and your needs. If there’s someone you don’t like, then we don’t like them either! 💪👊

🏅 Last month our dynamic duo, Jonathan & Jeremy, who are dual enrolled at @hopepreparatoryacademy and at @lakesumterstatecollege were selected to join The National Society of Leadership and Success.
🏅Today, Jonathan & Jeremy were inducted into the @nationalhonorsociety!
🏅 Their remarkable intelligence fills us with joy, but it is the depth of their character and their unwavering commitment to serving others that truly inspires us, filling our hearts with profound love and admiration for who they are.
🏅 We miss Mom and Dad every day, especially on days like today. The beauty of their legacy is that as my parents served and advocated for others, they instilled the same biblical principles in me and helped to pass on to their twin grandsons.
🏅God has been faithful to surround us with very special people who have loved us, the twins, and have shown up in their lives beyond just the labels of being related or church family or friends—its simply FAMILY.
🏅THANK YOU for making the National Honor Society induction such a special occasion for them this week Tio Joaquin, Titi Alexandra, & Uncle Mikey, Titi Penny & Luis, Uncle Tj & Aunt Meraiah, Grandmom “Gigi” Jodie, Grandpa “Papa T” Tony, Aunt Khrystyna, Mother Mary, HPA Principal Tawanda Odom, HPA Head of Schools Michael Randolph, HPA Assistant Principal Sharnae Daniels, and our Hope Family.

🥳 Happy Birthday to Joshua, our favorite Aquaboy!
🌊 He loves playing outside, and his ultimate favorite activity is being in the water. Whether it’s the ocean, a pool, or a lazy river, any body of water is his happy place. Swimming underwater from one side of a 6-foot pool to the other has been second nature to him since he was just 3 years old. In the water, no impairment or disability matters.
🌊 Today, he spent his birthday doing what he loves: jumping, diving, swimming, and laughing. This day would has been made possible by my dearly departed parents and his beloved late grandparents. However, Joshua still had a wonderful day because he is blessed to have a chosen family that loves and cares for him. Thank you to his cherished earthly grandparents and his earthly aunt and uncle for making this birthday so special! ♥️ Joshua loves you all more than you know!

💐 Thankful for the beautiful mothers I was able to spend time with on Mother’s Day, or shared a virtual sentiment.
💐 Thankful for all my boys who made my day!
💐 Moms, you are loved, needed, wanted, appreciated, and are a blessing. Without you, there would be no us. Happy Mother’s Day!

💐 Happy Heavenly Mother’s Day, Mommy! You are missed and thought of every day. Your amazing life was grounded in Philippians 4:13, and your impact resonated far and wide, rooted in faith and love. Your grandsons and I feel blessed to carry on your powerful legacy. We love you so much! #HappyHeavenlyMothersDay #HappyMothersDay #LoveAndMissYouMommy 🌸🌺🌹

🏅 🚔 Special THANK YOU to the wonderful Chief Shawn Ramsey of the Groveland Police Department for taking time out of his busy schedule to continually demonstrate his genuine care and commitment to community outreach.

✝️ Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
🥳 Happy Birthday, Joshua! Feliz Cumpleaños! 🥳🎂🧩💙 #Happy10thBirthdayJoshua #HappyBirthdayJoshua #JoshuasAngels #TeamJoshua #AutismAcceptanceMonth #WorldAutismAwareness
