VSP Vision Care Pledge for the Boys & Girls Club and $200 Visa Giftcard Giveaway

in education, families, family outing, giveaways, health, technology on 10/05/11

As a child my parents took great care to make sure I was healthy and that included check-ups to eye care professionals.ย  Even though some of family did to need wear glasses later in life, my parents concern & care about proper eye care did help me.ย  I didn’t have to wear glasses until I was an adult and of course I now like to joke that I would be walking around blind if I didn’t wear my glasses. ๐Ÿ™‚ My teen son does wear glasses for seeing objectsย at a further distanceย and I’m thankful–that just like my parents did with me–I take him annually (or twice a year) to check his vision.

Eye health plays a critical role in your childโ€™s ability to learn, play and develop. And, unfortunately, one in four students across the country has a visual impairment problem, many of which have gone undiagnosed.

To bring attention to the importance of eye health, VSP Vision Careย launched the VSP Eye Pledge campaign, a free and easy way to donate an eye exam and glasses to a Boys & Girls Club member in need.ย  VSP has pledged to donate up to 50,000 eye exams worth more than $19 million dollars!

The pledge is a free and easy way to donate an eye exam and glasses to a Boys & Girls Club member in need. I took the pledge! My grandmother had catarac issues and had to have a transplant. I’m glad someone was there for her when she needed them. And everyone in my family has glasses so I’m aware of the chances of my eyes going to pot on me! And I want to make sure that I keep my eyes healthy, as well as my kids, with regularly scheduled checkups!

I took the pledge and am happy to share b/c I used to wear glasses in junior high. kind of liked it but then i realized why i was wearing them. fortunately, i now have 20/20 vision and am super thankful for it. In contrast, my sis, whom is a Dr. can barely see if she doesn’t have her contacts or lens’s on. Seeing is everything. It can protect you from what you need to know and not know!

Bren Herrera mentioned this post, and it’s a great thing that you’re doing! I wear glasses out of necessity, but also for ‘style’ reasons. I like the look of them. Regardless, I know that having vision is a blessing no matter what, so it’s an important thing to take care of if you can.

I took the pledge because I have been wearing glasses since second grade. I am now 28 and go to the eye doctor every single year. I have an enlarged optic nerve so they have to closely monitor it to see if I am loosing any periferal vision. My eyes are so bad my contacts are not commercially available and have to be special ordered. (they are a -13.50). I want to keep my eyes as healthy as possible even if I have low vision!

  34. Abby Falcon says

    October 12, 2011 at 7:55 PM

My entire family has always worn glasses. Checking our eyes is totally necessary. Without getting our eyes checked and our glasses adjusted to their proper strength, my family has suffered headaches, health issues, blurry vision and much more. Its a common fact of life for us so we try our hardest to maintain proper eye health. We proudly support and are glad that VSP has created the Eye Pledge to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of America. No child should have to suffer from vision problems. Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway.

๐ŸŽ“ Born on Thanksgiving Day, we have been thankful for your lives every single day. Our dynamic duo, Jonathan & Jeremy, are Presidential inductees of the National Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
๐ŸŽ“ From the very beginning of their educational journey, they have consistently achieved academic excellence each quarter and semester. These accomplishments are impressive on their own, but they become even more meaningful when you consider the moral and empathetic qualities they embody.
๐ŸŽ“ With loving and compassionate hearts, they continue to serve as Youth Spokespersons and Leaders in the Community and on behalf of families with special needs and neurodiversity.
๐ŸŽ“As older siblings of a child with special needs, having helped care for older grandparents, and living in a household where disability is present, they have a very quick and keen ability to understand the needs of others uniquely.
