Easy Family Fun Ideas for Busy Families {Smithfield Ready, Snack, Go! Giveaway}

in brands, entertainment, families, family outing, food, giveaways, health, multiples, parenting on 03/29/16

Parents are busy.  Families are busy.  Between juggling so many responsibilities, it can seem like there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything on the to-do list. Being the Mom to four boys (teen, 8-year-old identical twins and infant baby), I have realized that I can get easily caught up in daily “busy” work.  I have to intentional create the time and opportunities to not miss and experience the (wonderfully imperfect) special everyday moments.

With four active boys, my life can revolve being on the go and being outdoors, especially with the twins.  They are constantly moving, playing, running, jumping, creating, can be two identical balls of energy and always seem to be HUNGRY!  Like most parents, its important for me that the boys make smart food choices, and even when they are in their constant grazing mode, I want to be able to offer them easy healthy snacking options.  Smithfield new Ready, Snack, Go! is a wonderful choice for families because its the perfect combination of sliced Smithfield lunchmeat paired with fresh cheese.

Ready, Snack, Go!

We are Going to The Disney Social Media Moms Celebration

Each Ready, Snack, Go! is gluten-free, 100 calories or less, packed with 8-10 grams of protein, and an individually sealed school safe option that contains no nuts.  Packed with protein and made from simple ingredients, Smithfield Ready, Snack, Go! is a healthier way to satisfy hunger when you’re on the move.  As soon as the twins arrive from school, they want a snack and want to play outside.  I often give them a snack outside since they only want to take a brief snack break and quickly resume to playing.

The boys were able to easily open the package – which didn’t require Mom’s help – and it was conveniently sized so it fit perfectly in their hands (or a pocket, purse, or gymbag).  They really liked that each Ready, Snack, Go! came “rolled up” and ready to eat.  They loved that Ready, Snack, Go! tasted great and they were able to go right back to playing with no mess. It was tasty, quick, easy and healthy!

Smithfield Ready, Snack, Go! and Twins

Ready, Snack, Go! are now available at grocery stores nationwide and available in six flavor varieties in individually sealed single-packs:

  • Smithfield Smoked Ham & American Cheese

  • Smithfield Smoked Ham & Hot Pepper Cheese

  • Smithfield Smoked Ham & Swiss American Cheese

  • Smithfield Roasted Turkey & American Cheese

  • Smithfield Roasted Turkey & Hot Pepper Cheese

  • Smithfield Roasted Turkey & Swiss American Cheese

If you are looking for some easy ideas to help you spend some quality time with your children and family, see our following list of fun activities to do together:

Designate a Holiday or Special Day for Each Family Member Spend time with your child by seeing a movie, playing in the park, or visit a local children’s museum. Surprise family members with “holidays” tailored to each personality. Celebrate the person by doing things they like, making their favorite foods, or anything that helps to highlight their uniqueness. The time allows your child or family member to have your undivided attention and is a good opportunity for open and honest conversations.

Plant a Family Garden Gardening is not only a way to grow flowers and food but also a way to connect with your family. A garden does not have to be perfect but you do want to teach your children how to do things the right way. Explain, show them how to do it and then let them do it. You will be amazed at what they can accomplish. For example, plant easy to grow fruits and vegetables, such as beans, cherry tomatoes and lettuce for younger children. Older children may relish in the challenge of harder plants like corn, potatoes, onions that take more work to start and cultivate.

Make and Eat a Meal Together Proven research shows that families, who eat together regularly, have happier, healthier children who perform better at school.  When at the grocery store, ask children to help select foods that the family will be making at the kitchen. At home, encourage children to be involved in the cooking process or set the dinner table. Do something out of the ordinary like making bread or pizza dough or a sweet treat from scratch that everyone can help making.

Watch a Movie Marathon If your kids love movies, pick out some classic movies to watch for a day. Create a Sundae bar with lots of ice cream flavors and toppings. Make some popcorn and have soda on hand. Choose a theme like cowboy westerns, comedies or aliens.

Organize a Video Olympics Wii offers lots of sports like bowling, tennis, baseball and boxing. Keep them short so everyone has a turn. You can even set up tournaments and play for prizes to make it more competitive. You can play in teams and get t-shirts in team colors to make it feel more official. Setting up a food bar with sports drinks, protein bars and fresh fruits and veggies will give it an authentic touch.

Head to the Park Find a list of all the parks in your city and make a plan to visit as many as you can during the break. As part of the fun, pack a picnic. This way, your kids can still run around outside and you’ll all be ready for a nap afterwards. Check out the playgrounds or the trails, and then when home, place stickers on a map of your city identifying each parks and playgrounds you have visited.

The holidays can be beautiful… but for many grieving parents — especially special needs parents — this season hurts in ways most people never see.

Between disrupted routines, sensory overload, and the ache of missing someone you love, December can feel overwhelming. And here’s what most don’t realize:

Nearly HALF of Christians stop attending church after losing a loved one… not because they’ve lost their faith, but because they feel the church doesn’t know how to walk with them through grief.
These families aren’t leaving God —
they’re leaving because they feel unseen in their pain.

As someone who advocates for families of ALL abilities, I’m sharing a new blog post today on how we can support grieving loved ones — especially special needs parents — with compassion, faith, and presence this holiday season.

If someone in your life is grieving, please don’t stay silent.
Say their loved one’s name.
Offer specific help.
Create space for their emotions.
Pray with them.
Walk with them — gently, consistently, faithfully.

Because no parent should have to grieve alone during the holidays.

🏆 Earlier this week, I was once again filled with thankfulness, love, and faith.
🏆 I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Home Health Care USA for naming me the “Latina American Caregiver of the Year!”
🏆 Caregivers are among the unsung heroes in our society, and there are many different types of caregivers. For instance, the “Sandwich Generation” refers to individuals who are caring for both their aging parents and their children simultaneously. These caregivers often provide physical, emotional, and financial support. More than 50% of Americans in their 40s and 50s are currently caring for both their children and their senior parents—and usually without any help from extended family.
🏆 Some caregivers dedicate their entire lives to caring for a child—or children—with disabilities into adulthood. Unfortunately, many caregiving parents or family members do not get a break or have quality time for themselves. About 50% of couples with special needs or neurodiverse children end up getting divorced.
🏆 Having experienced both of these caregiving situations and still living within them, being named “Latina American Caregiver of the Year” means more to me than just an award. It symbolizes the millions of unpaid caretakers across the country who provide loving, effective care for family members or friends.
🏆 I also want to extend my gratitude to all those who have followed my caregiving journey the past 17 years, including my care for my beloved late parents and my superhero, Joshua, on my social channels, Mami of Multiples, and Dr. Joscelyn Ramos Campbell. The BEST is yet to come! 🙌
🌎 Lastly, congratulations to all my fellow winners standing on stage. Your work in your communities helps make the world a better place!

From over 17 years ago, when we were among the first #Latina #bloggers in the U.S., to @ChicasChatting to raising homes with children of different neurodiversities, this was a glorious Sunday indeed to see my OG sis & bestie, @mami2mommy, in my city with her beautiful family! ♥️

👰🏻‍♀️🤵‍♂️ 20 years.
The week of Thanksgiving is always special for us, not only because we celebrate Thanksgiving, but also because we are celebrating the twins’ birthday and our wedding anniversary. Life is a blessed adventure, and looking back helps us appreciate it even more. We feel grateful for the immeasurable love, faith, and gratitude that have been constant throughout the years, both past and future. Happy Anniversary to us! 💍💒♥️
