Back-to-School Shopping and Savings at Kohl’s and Office Max School Supplies

in back to school, brands, education, families, family outing, parenting, reviews, savings, shopping on 07/30/14

As a busy wife, mother and small business owner, quality and value is very important to me.  Looking for ways to save money without sacrificing quality is an element that most families share.  Kohl’s, a leading specialty department store with 1,160 stores in 49 states offering national and exclusive brands and savings, is helping families with their back-to-school shopping with their Office Max partnership.  OfficeMax and Kohl’s department stores have partnered to offer shoppers select school supplies in Kohl’s stores nationwide, making it easy and convenient for parents and students to get what they need this back-to-school season.

CLOTHING

Kohl’s VP of Trend, Sofia Wacksman, describes key fashion trends for back-to-school that are available at Kohl’s:
School of Rock “Femininity is infused with an edgy, rock-and-roll vibe this back-to-school season,” says Sofia Wacksman, VP of Trend for Kohl’s Department Stores. “Mix dark grounded florals with not-so-traditional plaids or pair lace with leather or reworked denim. We love the look of a girly vintage-inspired floral dress worn with an oversized cardigan and leather moto boots.”
Style Trip “Liven up your look by experimenting with global-inspired prints and mixing different textures,” says Sofia Wacksman, VP of Trend for Kohl’s Department Stores. “Take a nod from the runway this school year and pair your denim with saturated brights in tribal geos, mystical graphics and sheer tops with printed overlays. We love re-colored camo’s and animal prints, evil eye graphics and touches of fur.”
Color Pop “We always love color, especially for back-to-school.” says Sofia Wacksman, VP of Trend for Kohl’s Department Stores. “Oversized tees and sweatshirts in quirky conversational prints like lips, kitties and dots in bright highlighter hues are fun to wear with the perfect legging. Or pair colored denim with fun intarsia sweaters to stay on trend this season. Layer on the brights with mismatched bracelets or pop colored socks.”
Denim “Colored and printed denim are at the core of kids’ wardrobes,” says Sofia Wacksman, VP of Trend for Kohl’s Department Stores. “But we also love the comfy knit pant; a continuation of the athletic-chic trend that we’ve been seeing on the runways the last few seasons. Pair this relaxed pant silhouette with booties or wedge sneakers to create a cool and comfy back-to-school look.”
Accessories “This year, back-to-school accessories are all about having fun. Accessorize with bright colored bracelets, layer silly socks that don’t quite match, sport a quirky printed backpack, add some patches – all are an easy and affordable way to update your look without breaking the bank,” says Sofia Wacksman, VP of Trend for Kohl’s Department Stores. “Mix it up and make your own fashion story.”

DORM

Kohl’s VP of Home Trends, Ralph Snyder, describes key home and dorm trends for back-to-school season:
Color “Brighten up a boring dorm room with bright colored furniture and accessories,” says Ralph Snyder, VP of Home Trends at Kohl’s Department Stores. “Highlighter hues, including corals and teals are the top colors this back-to-school season. Ease into this trend by adding a pop of color with piping on butterfly chairs or go bold by accessorizing the room with a vibrant hued lamp, storage bin or comforter set.”
Prints & Patterns “Mixing prints and patterns is an easy way to make a dorm room or first apartment feel like your own,” says Ralph Snyder, VP of Home Trends at Kohl’s Department Stores. “Polka dots, Moroccan tile prints and tribal geos are the key prints this season. Create a global-chic space by adding a comforter, pouf or decorative pillow in your favorite pattern.”
Organization “Keeping a small dorm room neat can be a challenge,” says Ralph Snyder, VP of Home Trends at Kohl’s Department Stores. “But the right organizational products go a long way to create a fresh and welcoming room. Jewelry organizers, shoe racks & shower caddy’s in bright colors and fun prints help keep the space organized and updated.”

🏢 Setting: Joshua meeting his new Occupational Therapist (OT). Pictures are worth a thousand words. As a fluent interpreter of all things Joshua 📷 snapshots #1-4 are an interpretation of some of his classic facial narratives.

📷 #1 “OK, Ms. New OT Lady, nice drawing of a bunny but I got real bunny action going on in my backyard! Saw a big fluffy gray & white bunny hopping around all day. You just had to be there!”🐰

📷 #2 “What do you mean I press the button and all bubbles come shooting out real fast? This is AWESOME!” 🫧

📷 #3 “That is what I was saying too! If everybody can eat snacks during therapy, we would all get along so much better.” 🍩🍟🍌🍪

📷 #4 “We’re holding hands now…it’s about to be Jesus time!” 🙏

🏢 Setting: 📷 Snapshots #5-8 are with his regular Speech Therapist (ST).

📷 #5 “Uh..what’s up with this turkey?” 🦃

📷 #6 “Oh, you need MY help so YOU can finish this turkey. Even though it somehow says Joshua on the turkey, I know it’s really your work.”🍗

📷 #7 “Aren’t you glad I came in today to help you, Ms. Speech Therapist? What are friends for?” 🍂

📷 #8 “Yes, I’m wearing one of my older twin brothers’ @hopepreparatoryacademy jackets. It is nice that Mommy & my brothers are the community leaders, but truth be told, everybody really knows ME! 😁 (Jeremiah 29:11)

#LaterGram In honor of the #StrangerThings cast premiere for the highly anticipated final season 5, reliving a few moments from the #StrangerThingsExperience in Seattle, which was AMAZING! I attended when it first opened. Cameras were not allowed to document the immersive assignment. Needlessly to say, we had to save the kids and Hawkins. I was screaming my head off with excitement and surprise! Looking forward to the new season!

💚Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay. Special needs families experience mental distress 5 times as often as those without disabilities.
🧩 Joshua is a child who is autistic and had a new diagnosis of focal seizures last year. Through prayer and medication, he has been great and has not had a seizure in many months! 🙌
💔However, yesterday, we were unceremoniously informed that Joshua had been dismissed from the private special needs school he had attended for almost five years and that his last day of school was today. The only reason was that the school’s leadership did not want to administer the (easy) life-saving emergency seizure rescue medication he needs if a seizure occurs at school.
💉The medication is an injection that is given in the arm or leg if he has a seizure. To quote the Doctor who showed us how to do it: “This is so simple even a child can do this.”
✏️The school where I have served as President of the Parent Teacher Fellowship for the past two years has seen my family and me dedicate countless hours volunteering over the last five years—not just with our time or sweat equity but also by contributing resources, expertise, monetary support, promoting initiatives, &, most importantly, showing loyalty.
🙌 As a mother, advocate, and #SpecialNeeds Pastor, we move forward the same way we always have, especially where Joshua is concerned—in total faith. Some things occur that we don’t understand why they are happening at the time or place they did. Only God knows the answer to that. (Deuteronomy 29:29). All we have to do is trust and believe that He knows what is best. He wants us to live a whole and abundant life. (John 10:10). Joshua’s life verse is “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).
What was meant for harm will be turned around for good. This temporary test will be added to our testimony.
Joshua’s life has already been the launchpad and inspiration of @HopeTorchlighters, #BuddyBreak, & others that support #specialneeds families. This sweet boy will continue to thrive & God will continue to use Him! 🙌💙 #TeamJoshua #JoshuasAngels
