Tomorrow is the big day – February 7 – THE LEGO® MOVIE is assembling nationwide! The LEGO® Movie, the first-ever, full-length theatrical LEGO® adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures, opens in theaters February 7, 2014. Directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (“21 Jump Street,” “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”), it stars Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie and Charlie Day, with Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.
The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
My kindergarten twins (and teen) have been excited about the THE LEGO MOVIE for weeks and they start to sing everytime, Everything is Awesome, one of the main theme songs from the movie is played on a commercial or movie trailer online. Given the level of excitement in my household about the movie, we were very pleased to be invited by Warner Bros. to be part of the #LEGOMovieChallenge.
The challenge was to build a LEGO set that was from a scene depicted in THE LEGO MOVIE. The sets were age-appropriate according to the age of the children helping to build the set. With the twins being kindergarten aged we picked The LEGO Movie Melting Room (Ages 6-12, 122 pieces).
Thanks to the efficient assistance of Dad and Mama (Grandma), the twins quickly started to section the LEGO pieces together. The colorful drawings in the instructions booklet really helped the twins to visualize ideas of what the final look should be for the Melting Room scene. They loved being able to assemble something from the start to a finished creation and to have the older family members join in on the fun – (the LEGO sets are a great opportunity to spend quality family time and/or to create a family project together too).
