Check Your Label! You are Already Cooking with Soybean Oil and Giveaway

in brands, families, food, giveaways, health, holidays, latinos, parenting, reviews, shopping on 10/04/13

Going food shopping this weekend? Check the ingredients labels…

Open your food pantry.  Check the labels on your favorite food products…

What is the common factor at the grocery store and your pantry?
Most likely the foods were made with SOYBEAN OIL!

According to the United Soybean Board, soybean oil is the most widely used edible oil in the world. Almost all margarine and shortenings contain soybean oil.  It is also frequently used in mayonnaise, salad dressings, frozen  foods, imitation dairy and meat products and commercially baked goods.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Soybean oil has several better-for-you health benefits that make it the perfect choice for family cooking:
    • Contains 0g trans fats per serving
    • Serves as a principal source of omega-3s which can help reduce blood pressure and prevent heart disease
    • Great source of vitamin E which prevents cell damage that may lead to diseases such as cancer and heart disease
    • Contains unsaturated fats and when it replaces saturated fats, it may lower cholesterol levels

Soybean oil has little flavor, which is an advantage because it won’t  interfere with the taste of the food.  (Many oils sold as “vegetable oil”
are actually soybean oil.)  With new school year in full swing and the upcoming holiday season around the corner, soybean oil can be a beneficial resource for weeknight meals or holiday dishes.

In the Hispanic culture, cooking is synonymous with the culture and lifestyle.  Especially when many Hispanic recipes call for oil to be used as one of the main cooking ingredients.

According to the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, heart and circulatory system diseases, including stroke, make up 36 percent of all deaths each year in the United States. In fact, more than eight percent of Hispanics, age 18 and
older, have heart disease.

“Oil is a base in many traditional Latino dishes and using soybean oil ensures families won’t have to sacrifice tradition and taste,” Cecilia Pozo Fileti, RD, commented for the United Soybean Board. “Checking the label on your vegetable oil for soy will confirm you’re making a smart cooking decision. It’s easy advice that’s worth sharing with family and friends.”

🕊️Happy Heavenly Birthday, My Beautiful Mommy! You are deeply missed and loved every day. Your influence is felt in many ways, from the endless love you gave and your wonderful sense of humor to the strength of character and faith you carried. You consistently supported numerous people, organizations, businesses, non-profits, and churches for over 50 years.
🕊️It is very important to me—and to your grandsons—to continue honoring you (and Daddy) on your special days and by living a life that reflects the trailblazing lives you both led. More than that, it’s the faith and love you instilled in us. The loss still feels fresh, as if it happened yesterday. When someone irreplaceable is no longer physically with you, it’s not something you simply “get over.”
🕊️ I am grateful that I saw how you and Dad handled your grief over losing your parents. You both kept living fully, enjoying all of God’s blessings while still honoring, remembering, and grieving for your parents—my beloved grandparents—for the rest of your lives. As the end approached for both of you, just 18 months apart, you both gave me the greatest gifts any daughter, who was also your caregiver, could ever ask for; you both told me how proud and thankful they were of me as a woman, mother, daughter, in my career, and in the life I had chosen to be with them. It was a blessing from God that I could be with you throughout my life and in your final moments.
🕊️ Thank you for being my Mommy, my best friend, the best Mama for your grandsons, and everything I could ever need. I will love you for all eternity.
