Almost half (47%) of parents, or those planning a family say they have already, or are considering bringing up their children speaking a second language from under the age of seven, according to a poll commissioned by Cilt, the National Centre for Languages. In her book Raising Bilingual Children (Mars Publishing, 2003), Carey Myles says “Bilingualism has been linked to a variety of positive cognitive benefits, including early reading, improved problem-solving skills, and higher scores on the SATs, including the math section.”
