What to Do with the Kids During the Summer

in beauty, disney, education, entertainment, families, family outing, health, holidays, parenting, savings, technology, travel on 06/07/11

My toddler twins boys started preschool not too long ago and have quickly become enamored with school. Even with the daily structure and learning to share with someone other than their twin, they are enjoying their time in the classroom. On the weekends or holidays they get up in the morning, find their shoes and are asking to go school! With my middle school teen and preschool toddler getting ready to start summer vacation this week, I am searching for summer activities that will provide fun and educational opportunities.

There are many choices during the summer, including free or low cost, that can help children beat the summer boredom.  The following is a list of some summer programs and options nationwide:

i don’t have kids but my adorable niece is coming down for 4th of July and spending one week with me. I’m taking her to the CNN center (they have an interactive kids area), the aquarium, our weak zoo (ha) and taking her to an amputee camp so that she can see what it’s like to be differently abled…. I think it’ll be a great lesson for her! Happy summer.

I used to dread summers because the price of summer camps — All these free ideas are very exciting. We found a theater that offers FREE movies every Wednesday morning — My daughter is VERY excited! And we went to a FREE concert at the park last night – Its simple family outings like these that children will cherish forever. Best part — most are very economical. Great round-up!

I agree with the Parks and Rec suggestion. My niece is visiting from El Salvador and I was able to get her in a very cool summer camp for a week. Also, summer is the perfect time for swimming lessons!
    Great list!

🎓 Born on Thanksgiving Day, we have been thankful for your lives every single day. Our dynamic duo, Jonathan & Jeremy, are Presidential inductees of the National Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
🎓 From the very beginning of their educational journey, they have consistently achieved academic excellence each quarter and semester. These accomplishments are impressive on their own, but they become even more meaningful when you consider the moral and empathetic qualities they embody.
🎓 With loving and compassionate hearts, they continue to serve as Youth Spokespersons and Leaders in the Community and on behalf of families with special needs and neurodiversity.
🎓As older siblings of a child with special needs, having helped care for older grandparents, and living in a household where disability is present, they have a very quick and keen ability to understand the needs of others uniquely.
🎓 Yet, they choose to dedicate their free time to support other families and siblings facing similar challenges. Whenever someone needs a helping hand, it’s often said, “The twins will help.”
🎓 Their intelligence makes us proud, while the content of your character fills us with love and admiration.
🎓 Congratulations, Jonathan and Jeremy! We love you beyond words. The gifts and talents that God has bestowed on each of you are a blessing to have nurtured and continue to water to fruition.
🎓We are looking forward to being able to get away with both of you and spend quality time together as a family! 💙💙 #classof2026 #graduation #DynamicDuo #twins #identicaltwins
