Why I became a WAHM: work at home mother {As Featured on NBC Latino}

During the past week, I was on trip to Fisher-Price Headquarters in upstate New York as one of their Play Ambassadors, co-hosted a successful healthy family-friendly event with McDonald’s in Central Florida, wrote two articles for a major publication, held conference calls, executed business and marketing goals for clients, networked with potential clients, kept my toddler twins and teen engaged, learning, and happy with various summer events (no easy task with these two age groups), did laundry, cooked, cleaned, ran errands, worked on personal and business finances, and celebrated my Mother’s birthday.

Its not a particular unusual or above average busy week, its just the normal work week for a WAHM (work at home mother).  According to the Center for Women’s Business Research, there are 10.1 million women-owned businesses in the United States with many being owned by WAHMs.  I am like countless professional mothers across the nation (and world) who run their household, manage their careers, and their own businesses.

Thanks to NBC Latino, I was able to give a brief synopsis about my life as WAHM.  It was indeed a transition to go from working outside the home all of my life from a career which gave me prestige and a steady paycheck to being a full time mom and full time work at home mom.  However, to me its a worthwhile venture and investment in my family’s development and my own professional goals.

Work and home life balance is different and unique to everyone so whatever an individual’s passion is can be the foundation for achieving personal and professional success.  I am thankful to my own husband, parents, and extended family for their support and encouragement to help me achieve my goals.

I salute all stay at home mothers, work at home mothers, and mothers that work outside the home for their commitment to their families and careers.

  3. I love hearing personal stories like these because it does give hope to others. It’s tough job being a Mom so it’s really great to know women are paving the way for their themselves & families.
