Review & Giveaway: Better Man: A Premier Resource for Positive Male Role Models

Do you remember having a hero or role model when you were growing up? Was it Superman? Did your family like to watch "Leave It Beaver" or "The Brady Bunch"? Unlike previous generations, role models for youth today are celebrities and media figures. Due to constant and ever present technology, these celebrated personas are being monitored in their personal and professional lives on a daily basis. The easy access to these figures allows youth to mimic all of their habits, many which leave much to be desired for parents. In a Tiger Woods scandal era, a talented athlete that many parents and boys adored as a role model, one is left to wonder if there any real role models left? An answer to that question is A Better Man.

A Better Man, is a book that features interviews and essays from some of the most respected and engaging men in America today. These men share their life experiences and give advice on courage, service, and respect--some of the characteristics that are required to become an upstanding male citizen. A Better Man hosts a board spectrum of valuable men from Former President George Herbert Walker Bush to Kevin Smith, a Youth Counselor in San Diego, CA.

The book is categorized into areas of expertise, including, government, military, professional sports, academicians, arts, philanthropists, and by characteristic themes. Sports fans can learn about NFL star Matt Hasselbeck's faith and his thoughts on leadership. The lesson of overcoming difficulties will be displayed in the story of former Vietnam POW Paul Galanti. The remarkable power of forgiveness is told by Broadway and film director, Kenny Leon. These are not video games heroes but real life men who are making a difference with their lives. The book is clear, concise, and a fascinating read. A Better Man is a perfect format to be used in a group setting such as youth groups or boy scouts.

Attorney and writer, Kelly H. Johnson, is the editor of A Better Man. Kelly's journalistic and impressive writing qualifications made her able to interview these honorable men with great ease. As mother and step-mother of five sons and one daughter, the mission of finding quality role models for boys was important to her. Parents, grandparents, schools, organizations will all find, A Better Man, to be a wonderful resource to uplift and bring confidence back to the male role model.

  1. I think its a great idea to provide kids with accessible role models. Not everyone can be a Michael Jordon or LeBraun James. Hope the author can get the word out to as many kids as possible. We all need to know that being a good person is important.
